Ambition to Action!

In 2012, I ran to become the first Latina elected to serve in the Oregon House of Representatives. In an elected body that is still mostly white and male, it was daunting.

Then, I went through Emerge Oregon’s leadership program.

Emerge is an organization that is dedicated to training and recruiting Democratic women to run for elected office and win. Emerge helped me build the networks and confidence to be effective in office and serve my district.

Now, I’m honored to receive Emerge America’s 2016 Ambition to Action Award.

The award is for “an Emerge alumna who takes on the tough fight and pushes until she has accomplished her goal. Her legacy will be that she is never afraid to lead on the issues that matter.”

I’m proud to fit that description – and I plan to keep fighting for the policies that will make Multnomah County a cleaner, greener, more prosperous community for everyone. Thank you for all that you do.

Thank you for voting and sharing my nomination for Emerge America’s Ambition to Action Award. I’m very excited for this opportunity and thank you for your support!

Meet Jessica

I am a mother, a business professional, a progressive Democrat, a proud resident of East Portland, and the first Latina elected to the Oregon House of Representatives.

As Multnomah County Commissioner I’ve fought to make sure every member of our community has what they need to succeed. I want to make Multnomah County an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. I'm ready to get to work and I hope you'll join us!
