Sign the petition: invest the kicker in our schools
Any good financial adviser will tell you: when you get a onetime windfall – like an inheritance or a bonus at work – don’t go out and spend that extra money. Save it. Invest it in your child’s college fund. Build your next egg. Make it count.
Well, Oregon’s revenue projections are in – and it looks like the economy is coming back to life, and tax revenues are up (for now). That’s great news, though we know it won’t last forever.
We should be using that money to shore up our chronically underfunded schools and save the rest in an emergency fund. But here’s the problem: Oregon’s one-of-a-kind “kicker” law doesn’t let us do that.
Sign the petition: tell the Legislature to invest the “kicker” funds in our schools!
The boom-and-bust budgets of the past decade have wreaked havoc on our schools. It’s time to use this period of economic growth to stabilize school funding and create a “rainy day” fund that softens the blow of the next economic downturn.
We have a chance to fix a broken system. Join me and add your name: let’s invest in our kids and save for the future!
Thank you,
Jessica
